Norwegian Cruise Line has partnered with Light & Wonder to introduce innovative table games to its fleet.
The cruise line recently selected Las Vegas-based L&W to bring Operator Wide Area Progressive table games to its 18 cruise ships. The order includes 200 GM Atlas systems with progressives for blackjack and poker derivatives.
Ian Donald, Norwegian’s vice president of gaming, commented, “This innovative technology allows us to link gaming experiences across our vessels, offering our guests even more excitement and the opportunity for larger payouts.”
Niaz Nejad, managing director of L&W’s Americas business unit, added, “We take pride in delivering exciting gaming experiences that resonate with players, whether on land or at sea. We’re excited to collaborate with Norwegian Cruise Line to launch its first OWAP table games network, bringing excitement to NCL’s guests at sea.”
Norwegian, headquartered in Miami, is an American cruise line founded in 1966 by Norwegian Knut Kloster and Israeli businessman Ted Arison.
Gambling on the High Seas
Casinos aboard cruise ships have seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, particularly with the growth of gambling in the US following the legalization of sports betting in 2018.
Royal Caribbean has revamped its gaming spaces and made significant investments in upgrading its Casino Royale areas.
Crystal Symphony introduced the first Monte-Carlo Casino at sea, and Carnival partnered with Bally’s on a rewards program.
Norwegian’s agreement with Light & Wonder will bring blackjack, let it ride, three-card poker, and ultimate Texas hold’em to its ships. The first boat to receive the new table games was Norwegian’s Breakaway ship.
Formerly known as Scientific Games, L&W rebranded in 2022, focusing on delivering innovative gaming experiences.
