Columbus, Ohio, authorities have charged 39-year-old Michael David McKee with the shooting deaths of Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, Dr. Spencer Tepe, 37, which took place on December 30. This tragedy has drawn attention to the Tepe couple’s Weinland Park neighborhood and sparked investigations into McKee’s background that link back to Las Vegas.
From 2023 to 2025, as revealed through documents acquired by KLAS-TV/Las Vegas and KSNV/Las Vegas, McKee was a board-certified vascular surgeon at Las Vegas Surgical Associates situated in Southwest Las Vegas.
Details about McKee’s career came to light in a medical malpractice lawsuit lodged in Clark County District Court in 2023, which accused numerous medical professionals, including McKee, of negligence following a procedure that necessitated urgent corrective surgery.
Despite the active nature of this case, there have been no public records of disciplinary measures against McKee. The Nevada Board of Medical Examiners shows that he held a medical license in Nevada for just over two years, with it expiring in June 2025 — merely six months prior to the murders.

According to police, McKee was identified as a suspect after surveillance footage captured a vehicle associated with him in the vicinity of the Tepe residence during the time of the shooting. Following a week-long manhunt that spanned across multiple states, he was taken into custody in Rockford, Illinois, where he subsequently waived his extradition to Ohio to face aggravated murder charges.
While his Las Vegas background may not directly connect to the motive or the crime, it illustrates the extensive professional path McKee has taken, which includes professional licenses in Nevada, Illinois, Ohio, and California.
Michael David McKee is currently being held without bail at Winnebago County Jail in Illinois and is scheduled to appear in court on January 18 regarding the status of his extradition to Ohio.
Understandably, Las Vegas Surgical Associates has opted not to comment on the case concerning their most renowned former employee.
