- A Mega Millions jackpot winner from St. Patrick’s Day has officially stepped forward.
- The Ohio Lottery confirms the $60 million winner selected the one-time cash payout option.
- Post taxes, the net amount received was around $22 million.
An Ohio resident has laid claim to a Mega Millions prize worth $60 million.

On St. Patrick’s Day, fortune smiled on a single ticket that successfully won the Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday, March 17.
The lucky numbers drawn were 4, 11, 18, 38, and 50, with the gold Mega Ball being 24.
The jackpot was set at $60 million, a lower amount due to a previous win just a week before on March 10, and the Ohio Lottery has now confirmed the winner’s identity.
Lottery officials disclosed that the winner chose the one-time cash option, receiving $30 million, which after taxes left them with an approximate amount of $21,975,000.
The life-altering ticket was purchased at Tyler’s Short Stop, a Sunoco gas station and convenience store in Van Wert. The retailer earned a bonus commission of $60,000 for selling the winning Mega Millions ticket.
Identity of the Winner Kept Confidential
In Ohio, lottery winners can choose to remain anonymous if they set up a trust or a similar entity and appoint a public representative such as an attorney or financial advisor.
The Mega Millions winner opted for privacy by establishing the Happy Trails Trust, with legal representation from Shaun A. Putnam, Esq., a Van Wert native with expertise in estate planning through his Putnam Law Offices.
Resetting the Mega Millions Jackpot
Since April 2025, the Mega Millions jackpot resets to $50 million following a win, having previously been reset to $40 million.
The base prize and ticket price were adjusted, with the ticket cost rising significantly from $2 to $5, while eliminating the $1 add-on Megaplier, now replacing it with a built-in multiplier feature.
This multiplier offers players additional chances to elevate their winnings.
Each ticket is randomly assigned a multiplier, which may be 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or even 10X. The probability of receiving a 2X multiplier stands at about one in two, while the 10X multiplier appears in approximately one in every 32 tickets.
According to Mega Millions representatives, the update has led to an increase in winners and bigger non-jackpot prizes, slightly enhancing the odds of winning the grand prize from one in 302.5 million to one in 290.4 million.
Upcoming Weekend Lottery Jackpots
The next Mega Millions draw is scheduled for tonight, Friday, April 24.
Tonight’s lottery boasts an estimated annuitized jackpot of $150 million, with a cash option valued at $67.3 million. The Mega Millions has rolled over 10 times since the St. Patrick’s Day jackpot was won.
In addition, Powerball will feature a jackpot estimated at $118 million this Saturday, with a cash value of $53.9 million. The Powerball jackpot was last claimed on April 6 by a single ticket sold in Delaware that won $230.8 million.
