The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has launched a new regulation requiring online players aged under 25 to impose deposit limits as their gaming involvement escalates.

Setting Daily, Weekly, or Monthly Limits
The aim is to establish early guidelines for healthier gaming behaviors among younger players, according to OLG’s official statement.
“Imposing a deposit limit is not about restricting options; it’s about empowering individuals to pause and reflect on their spending preferences,” remarked Duncan Hannay, President and CEO of OLG.
“OLG utilizes research and proven practices to shape how we interact with players and adapt to evolving trends. This new policy is a practical, data-backed initiative designed to aid gamers under 25 in developing safer habits from the outset.”
Player Notifications
This initiative comes amidst rising calls for the industry to enhance self-regulation, especially regarding responsible gambling among younger demographics and the proliferation of igaming promotions.
Once a player under the age of 25 deposits $500 or more in one transaction, they will be prompted to establish a deposit limit, which can be set on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
“Promoting responsible gaming is a key focus for the Ontario government. Finding the right equilibrium between personal choice and safeguarding at-risk players is crucial,” stated Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.
Fostering Safer Gaming Habits Early
“This initiative showcases the robust cooperation among government organizations, agencies, and industry stakeholders to enhance player protections and to ensure Ontario’s gaming market is secure, responsible, and trustworthy.”
By prioritizing responsible gaming for individuals through this new measure, OLG will also promote their PlaySmart program, which includes deposit limits, spending alerts, and temporary account suspensions.
This policy comes at a time when OLG’s Proline platform has witnessed a surge in digital gambling revenue, benefiting provincial government finances. According to OLG’s recent financial report for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, online casino and sports betting income reached CAD $585 million, reflecting a 15% year-over-year growth.
