  • Ontario sportsbooks introduce an array of novelty bets for the upcoming major game
  • FanDuel unveils Stefon Diggs/Cardi B Super Bowl betting option
  • OLG reaps rewards from new Kambi collaboration

Following last week’s announcement of Kambi Group assuming control of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Proline sportsbook, an OLG representative revealed that the platform will significantly enhance its offerings by introducing more novelty bets for this Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Tony Bitonti noted that the new Kambi Proline platform will feature a plethora of additional options for novelty betting. Enhancements include more betting choices for international sports, upgrades in same-game parlay options, introduction of baseball “same game” parlays, and broader selections for player props, alternate lines, and futures.

Cultural Insights

A recent Vividata study reveals that the Super Bowl has transcended its status as merely a sporting event for Canadians. It has become a cultural phenomenon, engaging even those who don’t typically follow football, often involving a night filled with food, drinks, and socializing with loved ones.

The study shows that 56% of Super Bowl viewers do not regularly watch NFL games. Vividata highlights that the Super Bowl inspires game-day activities, with many viewers even opting to make wagers after viewing specific advertisements during the event.

Expanding Novelty Betting

Bitonti stated that the Kambi tie-in enhances Proline’s standing in Ontario’s igaming sector, which boasts 48 licensed private operators.

Ontario-licensed sportsbooks permit novelty betting on events beyond sports, encompassing areas like politics, award shows, and various entertainment segments—contrasting with those in the U.S. Thus, Ontario sportsbooks are set to introduce a wide variety of imaginative novelty wagers, particularly for the Super Bowl.

Will Diggs Pop the Question?

FanDuel Canada is joining the fun this year by allowing fans to bet on whether New England Patriots receiver, Stefon Diggs, will propose to his music star partner, Cardi B. In Ontario, FanDuel users can also predict which song Bad Bunny will perform first at the halftime show, the outcome of the coin toss, the duration of the national anthem, and the first person the MVP will acknowledge in their speech.

These options extend beyond the standard “color of the first Gatorade poured on the victorious coach” bets typically found across various platforms.

As noted by FanDuel Canada’s Novelty Trader: Over 60% of bets are placed on the national anthem lasting longer than 119.5 seconds, 60% anticipate a proposal from Stefon Diggs after the game, 30% believe the MVP will recognize his teammates first, Cardi B is the favored special guest for the halftime show, and over 20% have bet on yellow/lime or green for the first Gatorade poured on the winning coach.

At Proline, over 90% of bets are on heads for the coin toss outcome. In the U.S., DraftKings is offering a full slate of novelty betting options for the Super Bowl.
