Transitioning to theScore Bet

Jay Snowden, President and CEO of PENN Entertainment, announced that they will transition their online sports betting platform in the U.S. to theScore Bet, timed with the anticipated launch of sports betting in Missouri.

TheScore Bet is currently actively operated by PENN in Ontario.

In August 2023, PENN and ESPN agreed to a decade-long partnership where ESPN provided PENN with branding, trademarks, and marketing services. In return, PENN committed to pay ESPN $1.5 billion over the initial ten years. During this period, PENN rebranded its existing Barstool Sportsbook to ESPN BET.

Incident of Early Termination

This previous agreement contained a provision allowing either party to terminate the contract after three years.

As of December 1, 2025, DraftKings will be the exclusive official sportsbook and odds supplier for the network due to an established long-term partnership.

When discussing the Q3 2025 financial results, Snowden described the decision to part ways with ESPN as “mutual and amicable,” noting that the company faced challenges in establishing ESPN BET as a competitive player in the market.

These digital shifts will enable the company to reallocate resources to focus strategically on the North American market, targeting higher returns.

Digital Strategy Realignment

In a statement, Snowden remarked: “During our initial partnership with ESPN, both parties were clear that we aimed for a competitive position in the industry. Despite significant advancements in enhancing our product and establishing a cohesive ecosystem with ESPN, we have both agreed to amicably conclude our collaboration.

“We will realign our digital focus to bolster our expanding iCasino business, while also leveraging our strong omnichannel capabilities as the leading regional retail casino operator.”

Penn’s platform is currently licensed and operational in 19 states across the U.S., including Washington D.C.

Aligning with Missouri’s Launch

“Looking ahead, we aim to rebrand our online sports betting service to theScore Bet, targeting launch on December 1, 2025, to align with the anticipated introduction of sports betting in Missouri, pending regulatory approval. We already operate theScore Bet in Ontario, and our offerings across the U.S. and Canada will benefit from integration with theScore media app, which boasts around 4 million active monthly users across North America.

“Our offerings will provide an opportunity to cross-sell effectively to our Hollywood-branded iCasino, which will remain part of our online sports betting suite in jurisdictions where it’s permissible, alongside functioning as a standalone iCasino application.”
