The gaming sector in Pennsylvania is experiencing significant growth, with gross revenue surpassing $600 million in March 2026.
On Friday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced that player losses last month neared $602.4 million, marking a 4.85% increase year-over-year. This achievement signifies the first time in 2026 that monthly gross gaming revenue (GGR) has surpassed $600 million.
After a standout year with a statewide GGR of $6.79 billion, Pennsylvania’s gaming market shows ongoing expansion. However, this growth is predominantly being driven by online revenues.
In 2025, GGR from retail slots and table games saw a decline of 0.8%. In March 2026, traditional gaming faced challenges, while online gaming thrived.
Retail Challenges, Online Success
After positive trends in January and February, March saw retail slot revenues drop by 3%, reaching $216.2 million, while table game revenues fell by 4% to $78.7 million.
Both Parx Casino and Wind Creek Bethlehem, leading physical casinos in gross revenue, reported declines compared to the previous year. Parx led the market with GGR of $50.2 million, while Wind Creek followed closely at $44.9 million.
Out of the 17 casinos, 14 reported decreases in GGR from slots, and 10 experienced a reduction in table game wins. However, online gaming, including iGaming and sports betting, compensated for the in-person revenue challenges. March’s GGR from online slots, poker, and table games reached $254.7 million, indicating a nearly 7% increase compared to the previous year, equating to a $16.4 million rise.
March Madness provided a lucrative opportunity for sportsbooks, showing a 77% surge in year-over-year revenue. Oddsmakers retained $47.8 million from the bets placed, reflecting an increase of $20.8 million compared to March 2025. Notable early exits from the men’s tournament included Villanova, Penn, and Lehigh, while St. John’s faced defeat against Duke in a well-wagered Sweet 16 match.
For March 2026, it’s significant to note this milestone represents only the fourth instance in Pennsylvania’s history where monthly GGR exceeded the $600 million mark. Previous months included May 2025 ($601.8 million), November 2025 ($523.1 million), and December 2025 ($616.7 million).
Pennsylvania Casino Opening Soon
The state of Pennsylvania is preparing to launch its 18th brick-and-mortar casino next month in State College. The Happy Valley Casino will host test charity nights on April 24 and 25, with proceeds directed to the State College Food Bank and the YMCA of Centre County.
This new “mini casino” will feature around 600 slot machines and 30 live dealer table games. Despite its proximity to Penn State University, there are currently no plans for a sportsbook.
Happy Valley Casino will also provide a full-service dining experience, a grab-and-go option for snacks and sandwiches, as well as a centrally located bar within the casino.
