In January, Pennsylvania State Police were called to Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course after a report of a man urinating on a slot machine.
WGAL News 8 reported that a 59-year-old man from Lykens, Dauphin County, was charged after exposing himself and urinating on a lineup of slot machines within the casino run by Penn Entertainment.
Witnesses were present in the vicinity when the incident occurred on January 31, and the police have not disclosed the individual’s name who was arrested.
The suspect was charged in Dauphin County, and police notes indicated that he became physically resistant during apprehension.
Situated just outside Harrisburg, Hollywood Penn National boasts over 1,500 slot machines, 42 table games, and a sportsbook. The venue features live horse races and a racebook, alongside 10 dining and drinking establishments, and the Penn Heroes State, which hosts leading performances during summer.
Public Urination in Casinos
There have been multiple occurrences of patrons urinating at slot machines. Typically, this occurs when players on a winning streak refuse to leave their machines for restroom breaks.
In 2023, a viral video showed a woman seated at a slot machine in Planet Hollywood on the Las Vegas Strip urinating while still playing. In Nevada, urinating intentionally on a casino floor is considered a misdemeanor with potential fines up to $2,000 and up to one year in county jail.
In December 2021, a high school football coach in Pennsylvania was apprehended for public urination at Presque Isle Downs & Casino, where he allegedly urinated on the casino floor near the sportsbook area.
While some gamblers might be unable to leave the gaming action for a quick bathroom visit, others may resort to urination in frustration over their losses.
Additionally, in December 2021, Nevada police were called to Wendover Nugget Hotel & Casino for an incident involving a 31-year-old woman who urinated near the casino floor after being asked to leave for intoxication. She was charged after exposing herself and urinating against the wall of a Starbucks.
Possible Legal Consequences
In the case of the individual at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, most public urination offenses are regarded as municipal violations. Fines for such actions usually range from $500 to $750.
However, the man’s alleged resistance to police officers during his arrest raises more severe implications. If someone obstructs a police officer during a lawful arrest, it is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor, which may result in a maximum of two years in prison and fines up to $5,000.
