An armed standoff is currently unfolding at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. A man who informed the police that he possesses a gun has reportedly taken a woman hostage in his secured hotel room. SWAT and crisis negotiators are present at the scene.

“We are actively working towards resolving this situation,” tweeted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

Police were dispatched in response to a domestic disturbance report at 9:15 a.m. local time. The room is situated above the resort’s pool area on the south side. The vicinity has been cleared, and the involved hotel floor has been secured, although the property remains open.

It is currently unclear if the woman has a relationship with the man.

“She is still in the room at this time,” LVMPD Bureau Commander Stephen Connell stated during a press conference. “The female has communicated and is still unharmed.”

Connell clarified that law enforcement officers have not sighted a weapon, and the sounds that some initially thought were gunshots were actually items being thrown out of the damaged window of the hotel room.

“Our team is fully cooperating with the law enforcement officers on-site who are handling the investigation,” read a statement from Caesars Palace.
