A Detroit business owner is in hot water for allowing Polymarket to advertise on his water tower without proper permits.

The Detroit Free Press reported that a water tower in northeastern Detroit was recently painted with Polymarket’s logo, sparking controversy.
The water tower is on private property owned by Mount Elliott Crushing, a concrete recycler, but city officials have not issued permits for the advertisement.
City representatives will inspect the property and may issue a correction order for the unauthorized branding.
Legal Battle Over Prediction Markets
Polymarket and similar prediction market platforms argue that they are financial platforms regulated by federal law, particularly the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
In Michigan, Attorney General Dana Nessel has challenged the CFTC’s jurisdiction over prediction markets, including those involving sports trading shares.
Unconventional Advertising Tactics
Polymarket has been known for its unconventional marketing strategies, such as branding a water tower in Detroit and opening a pop-up “newsbar” in Washington, DC.
The company has also partnered with top celebrities like LeBron James and Derek Jeter to promote its prediction market.
The Polymarket water tower in Detroit has caused a stir in the prediction market and gaming communities, despite its somewhat discreet location near Interstate 94.
A representative from Mount Elliott Crushing claimed to be unaware of the controversy surrounding Polymarket’s branding on their property.
