A woman in Portland is facing charges after allegedly running over and killing her boyfriend following a dispute over his $3,200 lottery win in an apartment parking lot.

Mary Ann McKinzy, 55, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Bakersfield, Calif., and brought back to Oregon to face charges of second-degree murder in connection with the death of James S. Miller, 75, in November 2025.

Court documents reveal that the disagreement between Miller and McKinzy began after Miller won $3,200 in the lottery.

After giving McKinzy $1,700 of his winnings, Miller accused her of taking an additional $800 without permission, leading to the confrontation.

Violent Altercation

Miller went to McKinzy’s apartment complex in Portland with a friend on November 28 to confront her about the money, escalating the situation.

Security footage allegedly shows a tense exchange between the two, with Miller damaging McKinzy’s car tires and McKinzy ultimately driving over him.

Tragic Outcome

Police responded to the scene where Miller was found dead, with the medical examiner determining his cause of death as blunt-force trauma, ruling it a homicide.

McKinzy’s vehicle was later located at a tire shop, with evidence linking her to the crime scene. She was eventually apprehended in Bakersfield and extradited back to Oregon to face charges.

McKinzy is currently incarcerated at the Multnomah County Detention Center and is set to appear in court later this month.
