Las Vegas prosecutors have announced their intention to pursue the death penalty for Dandre Owens, the individual accused of the deadly shooting of 29-year-old Brittani Bailey inside an MGM Grand hotel room. He is also charged with luring another victim to a desert location and executing him there. Both homicides took place in January 2024.

Owens, aged 30, has been indicted on multiple charges including two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon, robbery, carrying a concealed firearm without a permit, possession of a silencer, and various identity theft-related offenses. Notably, one of these charges is related to a past conviction for third-degree burglary.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Details of the MGM Grand Incident
On January 29, 2024, authorities claim that Owens brought Bailey to an MGM Grand hotel room under the pretense of engaging in sexual activity, only to fatally shoot her in the back of the head with a gun fitted with a silencer.
Owens was apprehended shortly after the incident, with police discovering a silencer, a 9mm handgun, a loaded magazine, and Bailey’s Social Security card in his possession. He reportedly tried to disguise his identity by claiming to be “John Doe.” Evidence found at the scene later connected his weapon to another murder.
Desert Murder Case
Earlier in January, Owens is alleged to have placed a Craigslist ad that enticed Edward Kukish with a “desert trash pickup” job. After transporting his victim to a secluded spot near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pabco Road, he shot Kukish twice in the head, stole his cell phone, and left the body behind.
Kukish’s remains were recovered seven months later, and ballistics confirmed that the firearm used in that crime was the same as that in Bailey’s murder.
Owens is currently held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center, with a trial date yet to be established.
