Online gambling platform Rabona.com is in a legal battle with Mike Tyson. The UK-based Medier, which promotes Rabona, claims Tyson did not fulfill his duties as a brand ambassador due to his focus on preparing for a fight with Jake Paul.
Medier alleges in a $1.6 million lawsuit that Tyson and his company, Tyrannic, breached the contract in March 2024, the same day the Tyson Vs Paul Neflix special was announced, which earned Tyson around $20 million.
Contract Dispute
When Rabona announced its deal with Tyson on February 6, 2024, it included “Tyson-branded bonuses” and promised engagement with fans through livestreams on Rabona’s Twitch and Kick channels.
The lawsuit claims that none of these activities materialized due to Tyson’s sudden focus on the fight with Jake Paul.
Medier states that the termination of the deal resulted in Rabona losing €1.5 million ($1.6 million). In response, Tyrannic claimed it was Rabona that breached the contract.
According to a spokesperson for Tyrannic, Medier breached the terms of the agreement multiple times, giving them the right to terminate the contract to protect the Tyson brand’s reputation.
Disappointing Event
Ultimately, Jake Paul’s victory over a rusty Mike Tyson was underwhelming for fans expecting a Tyson comeback. Rabona’s lawsuit is not the only legal action related to the November 15 event, which many felt was overhyped.
A class-action lawsuit was filed in Florida against Netflix for poor streaming quality during the fight, accusing the platform of breach of contract and deceptive trade practices under Florida law.
The complaint alleges that Netflix was not prepared for the high demand of the fight, resulting in an unwatchable livestream. “Sixty million Americans were excited to see ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson versus YouTuber Jake Paul, but what they got was ‘The Baddest Streaming on the Planet,'” the lawsuit states.
