AREA15 has confirmed that it is currently undergoing a “restructuring … to address evolving marketplace conditions,” as reported by KVVU-TV/Las Vegas. As part of the restructuring, Dan Pelson, who was appointed as the chief operating officer in 2019, has departed from the Las Vegas-based company.

Officials at the entertainment and art complex informed KVVU that they are planning to prioritize the “most in-demand” aspects of their business. AREA15 is home to several popular entertainment and art residencies, including Omega Mart from the New Mexican art collective Meow Wolf.

“With next year’s launch of the expanded AREA15 District and the upcoming opening of multiple brand-new attractions, this decision supports AREA15’s vision and core strengths,” they mentioned.

Earlier in August, the Las Vegas City Council voted to designate the neighborhood as the world’s first immersive tourism district. By the time it reaches full capacity in 2037, the area is set to include multifamily housing units, office space, as well as retail and dining options.

“I really see it as a spark that’s going to bring that area of Ward 3 to life, and further revitalize it,” said councilmember Olivia Diaz, who represents the ward.

If this holds true, then any current challenges can be viewed as part of the growth process.

Currently, the main focus is on developing new entertainment attractions. These include a 12,000 square-foot attraction being constructed by Lionsgate Entertainment inside AREA15, which is based on the popular “John Wick” action movies starring Keanu Reeves. Additionally, Universal Horror Unleashed, a 100,000 square-foot, year-round take on the movie studio’s Halloween Horror Nights, is currently under construction adjacent to AREA15.

AREA15 is a collaborative project between the Fisher Brothers (Winston, Ken, and Steven) and New York City-based Beneville Studios, led by Michael Beneville, who also serves as AREA15’s chief creative officer.
