Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, overlooking Niagara Falls in Upstate New York, has announced a significant renovation project.
Seneca Resorts & Casinos, a wholly owned entity of the Seneca Nation, will spend $47 million to renovate 594 rooms and suites at the 26-story hotel in Niagara.
“Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino is the gateway to bold, distinctive, and memorable experiences for our guests,” said Seneca Resorts & Casinos CEO Kevin Nephew.
The renovation work is set to commence in October, with three floors being renovated at a time. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Niagara Falls Gaming Market Pressures
Seneca Niagara’s hotel renovation news follows the Ontario government’s decision to terminate MGE Niagara Entertainment Inc.’s gaming exclusivity.
MGE, owned by Mohegan, will continue operating Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara on behalf of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) after losing exclusivity. The move aims to boost tourism in the area.
OLG plans to attract more casino developers to build and operate resorts on the western bank of the Niagara River.
The Senecas are investing $47 million in room upgrades to stay competitive in the evolving market. The renovation project is crucial for the future success of Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino.
“We couldn’t let this languish. If we are going to be the leader, then we need to lead,” said Nephew.
Seneca Niagara Casino, which opened in 2002, is taking proactive steps to secure its position in the market amidst potential new competition.
Besides Niagara, Seneca Resorts & Casinos operates Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino in Salamanca and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in downtown Buffalo.
Seneca Niagara offers a large gaming floor with 2,500 slots and 80 table games, making it a popular destination for casino enthusiasts.
