The Las Vegas Raiders have recently released Chandler Jones, a defensive end, from his contract following his arrest in Las Vegas. Jones allegedly violated a temporary domestic violence protective order, leading to his termination from the team.
According to ESPN, Jones’ actions were considered detrimental to the team. When a player is released, it means their contract is terminated, allowing them to potentially sign with another professional team, as stated by sports news site Diario AS.
The 33-year-old Jones had signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Raiders in 2022 but had not played in any regular games this season. He was placed on the team’s non-football injury/illness list on September 20.
Recently, Jones made social media posts criticizing team officials and others. Reports suggest he displayed emotional distress and used offensive language in these posts. In response, a health professional, identified as Dr. Heather Thanepohn by the Bleacher Report, was sent to Jones’ residence. After determining that he was in danger, he was transported for evaluation by the Las Vegas Fire Department EMTs and later admitted to a hospital where he received medication for emotional issues.
“I haven’t done anything wrong. The police said people were concerned about me because of my posts online,” Jones posted on social media, according to USA Today.
Following his arrest, Jones was booked at the Clark County Detention Center and posted bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 4. Raiders Head Coach Josh McDaniels refrained from discussing Jones’ situation during a press conference, stating he is not up to speed on all the details.

“The Raiders are hopeful that Chandler Jones receives the care that he needs. He, his family, and all those involved are in our thoughts,” the team stated on X, formerly known as Twitter. “As this is now a legal matter, we will not be providing further comment.”
McDaniels previously referred to the incidents involving Jones as a “private matter” and a “personal situation.” Former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III requested public prayers for Jones, emphasizing the need for him to feel heard during this challenging time.
“Let’s all pray for Chandler Jones and his family,” Griffin posted on X. “I don’t know what’s going on with him right now, but after everything I have seen I do know he needs to feel like he is being heard in this moment. I reached out to him and encourage all of his NFL brothers to do the same.”

Jones played college football at Syracuse University and was subsequently drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He also played for the Arizona Cardinals.
