Las Vegas, known for its exciting sports events, is facing a new challenge as bed bugs have been discovered in hotels during the upcoming F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix and Super Bowl seasons. Hotel operators are concerned about the negative impact on their businesses.
KLAS-TV/Las Vegas, a reputable news source, recently reported that two additional Las Vegas Strip Resort Hotels discovered bed bugs this summer, based on records obtained from the Southern Nevada Health District.
Previous reports from Casino.org have revealed that bed bugs were found at Circus Circus, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, The Palazzo, Tropicana, MGM Grand, and Sahara over the past two years. The number of affected hotels has now risen to nine with the inclusion of The Venetian and Park MGM.
The health department report stated that a guest at The Venetian reported encountering bed bugs on July 29 and was relocated to a different room. A subsequent inspection confirmed the presence of the pests. Similarly, on August 14, a guest at Park MGM also reported bed bugs, and an inspection carried out the next day confirmed the infestation.
Despite the concerning reports, neither hotel has provided any official comments to KLAS regarding the issue.
Responses from Resorts
When Casino.org reached out to the seven hotels previously affected by bed bugs, only two responded.
Tropicana stated that they prioritize the health and safety of their guests and conduct regular comprehensive maintenance programs to prevent such incidents. In the event of a complaint, they isolate the affected room and seek professional treatment if necessary, as per the statement from Tropicana VP/GM Arik Knowles.
Sahara also responded by assuring that their immediate response protocol ensures the successful resolution of any issues, although they acknowledged that incidents of this nature are highly unlikely.
Meanwhile, MGM Resorts provided a statement to KLAS mentioning their comprehensive procedures in place to address and resolve any issues that may arise.
Tips for Detecting Bed Bugs
Before unpacking in a hotel room, it is recommended to store luggage in the bathtub without unzipping it.
To inspect for bed bugs, pull back the sheets and thoroughly check the mattress, bedding, and even couches for any signs of bugs, blood stains, or small black dots.
Bed bugs are small, flat insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. They can range in size from 1 mm to 7 mm and are often reddish-brown in color.
If an infestation is suspected, it is advised to immediately notify the front desk, as recommended by the Southern Nevada Health District.
It is important to note that the presence of bed bugs is not determined by the cleanliness of the room; rather, it may be more influenced by visitors from regions where bed bugs are more prevalent.
In a report titled “Worst Las Vegas Hotels for Bed Bugs Named,” released by Vital Vegas in May 2021, the issue of bed bugs in hotels was highlighted.
