- Rio Las Vegas eliminates resort fees for group bookings
- Groups of 10 or more will be exempt from the $50 per night resort fee
- Offer is valid for midweek reservations only
Rio Las Vegas aims to be a preferred location for large groups by providing a selection of guest rooms without resort fees.

This off-Strip destination has recently announced that it will waive resort fees for group reservations, defined as having “10 or more attendees.” The offer is only applicable for stays from Sunday to Thursday.
Event planners have indicated for years that resort fees are one of the most frustrating aspects of organizing events in Las Vegas. They complicate budgeting and create uncertainties at crucial moments,” said Ashley Lowe, Senior Vice President of Sales at Rio Las Vegas.
“Our goal is to make Rio the most favorable option in this landscape, and that starts with being transparent about value from the outset,” Lowe added.
Rio boasts over 200,000 square feet of adaptable meeting space and 2,520 guest rooms, with 1,500 of those suites newly updated.
Elimination of Resort Fees
Rio Las Vegas is working to attract event planners by removing resort fees, which critics argue are merely a tactic to charge customers extra for amenities such as Wi-Fi, local calls, daily newspapers, and printing boarding passes.
Currently, Rio imposes a $50 per night resort fee, which supposedly covers in-room Wi-Fi, access to the fitness center and pool, local and toll-free calls, complimentary self-parking and valet services, as well as discounts on select shows, including Penn & Teller. This nightly fee is also subject to the Clark County room tax.
In addition to waiving the resort fee for midweek groups, Rio offers a $500 credit for shipping and receiving, one room upgrade for every 75 room nights booked, and one complimentary room for every 40 rooms reserved. Planners will also earn double Hyatt loyalty points and receive a 20% discount on audiovisual services from the resort’s third-party provider. Rio became part of the World of Hyatt loyalty program in March 2024.
“By entirely removing resort fees, Rio Las Vegas is taking a significant step towards simplifying the planning experience and offering clear value to both attendees and organizations,” the casino reported.
Resort Fees Incorporated into Initial Pricing
In late 2024, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) established the “Junk Fees Rule,” which prohibits the deceptive practice of adding resort fees at the conclusion of online booking processes. Casino hotels must now incorporate the resort fee into their upfront advertised nightly rates.
Individuals deserve to know exactly what they will pay upfront without worrying about unexpected fees that could disrupt their budget and be unavoidable,” stated FTC Chair Lina Khan.
The junk fees rule is applicable not only to hotels but extends to ticketed events and vacation rentals as well.
