Rivers Casino Portsmouth set to start construction on $65 million hotel project in Virginia next week

Rivers Casino Portsmouth is gearing up to enhance its presence with a groundbreaking $65 million hotel initiative, representing a significant stride in its growth within Virginia’s Hampton Roads area.

The casino, alongside its parent company Rush Street Gaming, is set to inaugurate construction on October 15 for The Landing Hotel Portsmouth. This eight-story establishment will feature 106 rooms, including 32 suites and two luxurious “super suites” with both indoor and outdoor facilities. Additionally, the hotel will boast a lobby bar and an array of upscale amenities upon its anticipated opening in early 2027.

Construction will be spearheaded by S.B. Ballard Construction Company, a Norfolk-based construction firm that also played a pivotal role as the general contractor for the casino’s main facility, which made its debut in 2023.

Tim Drehkoff, CEO of Rush Street Gaming and Rivers Casino Portsmouth, stated that this expansion underscores the company’s enduring commitment to the region. “We are delighted to further invest in Portsmouth and to collaborate once again with a local firm to enhance our service offerings to the Hampton Roads community and the state of Virginia,” he commented.

The addition of the new hotel is part of a larger trend of investment within Virginia’s burgeoning casino industry, as operators aim to diversify entertainment and hospitality options beyond mere gaming facilities.
