Former county administrator Robert Telles, convicted of murdering Las Vegas reporter Jeff German, has filed an appeal with the Nevada Supreme Court. Telles, now 48, was sentenced to 20 years to life for German’s first-degree murder in August.
A court document from KLAS-TV/Las Vegas shows that Telles, no longer represented by his trial attorneys, has handwritten the notice of appeal.
During the trial, Telles represented himself, going against his attorneys’ advice. His defense included a conspiracy theory where he claimed he was framed to stop investigating a corrupt realty company in Las Vegas.
Despite his claims of innocence, evidence presented during the trial, including DNA under German’s fingernails and incriminating video recordings, led to Telles’ conviction.
Telles received an additional sentence in October due to the weapon used and the victim’s age. He is currently serving his time in Nevada’s High Desert State Prison.
Once his appeal is rejected, Telles will be eligible for parole in 2050 at the age of 74.
