- The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be experiencing an immersive upgrade at the Las Vegas Sphere in 2027
- Cutting-edge technologies will enhance and broaden the iconic 1975 film for the enormous curved display
- The adaptation will likely feature audience interaction elements, similar to The Wizard of Oz
The beloved musical film, Rocky Horror Picture Show, is set to receive an immersive makeover at the Las Vegas Sphere, as announced by Sphere Entertainment on Tuesday, June 16. The launch is scheduled for 2027.

This cult musical is set to make waves in 2027 through a special arrangement with 20th Century Studios and Primary Wave Music, who manage significant aspects of the film’s rights and music library. This production will follow the Sphere’s 2025 reinterpretation of The Wizard of Oz.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show narrates the tale of a couple (Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick) who seek refuge in an unusual mansion, where they encounter a flamboyant inventor (Tim Curry) whose creations incite chaos and passion.

It quickly rose to become the most iconic cult film of all time, debuting as a midnight movie in April 1976 at the Waverly Theater in New York City, and continues to be screened across America.
Insights from the Lab
In a move similar to The Wizard of Oz, Sphere Entertainment will employ “advanced technologies” to enhance the size and quality of the original film, making it suitable for the Sphere’s expansive 160,000 square-foot interior display.
This likely includes AI-driven enhancements for resolution, color correction, and image reconstruction aimed at maintaining the essence of the original cinematography while significantly improving clarity. The remastering process may also selectively extend certain scenes and introduce characters that were previously omitted.
“Through Sphere Studios, we’re developing a lineup of original experiences that challenge the limits of technology and storytelling for this new medium, all while prioritizing the audience’s experience,” stated Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan. “Since the release of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975, it has transformed audience engagement and became a cultural touchstone. With the Sphere, we aim to elevate that immersive spirit to unprecedented heights.”
It’s quite likely that the Sphere adaptation will integrate live performances, props, and callbacks customarily seen during midnight screenings. For example, much like foam apples raining down during the apple trees’ antics in Sphere’s version of The Wizard of Oz, audiences can expect rice (or a safe alternative) during the wedding scene between Ralph Hapschatt (Jeremy Newson) and Betty Munroe (Hilary Labow).
