Saskatchewan has recently extended the exclusive right of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) to operate the regulated online gaming market in the province until September 2029. Additionally, a pilot project for a First Nations gaming center featuring up to 49 slot machines has been approved.
A recent agreement between the government of Saskatchewan and the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) has resulted in an amendment to the Gaming Framework Agreement (GFA). FSIN represents the province’s 74 First Nations.
Extension of Online Gaming Exclusivity
Jeremy Harrison, minister responsible for Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan, stated, “Our government has established a successful gaming industry in Saskatchewan through collaboration with the FSIN, leading to gradual improvements.”
In its annual report for the 2025-26 fiscal year, SIGA reported total wagers of $804 million and Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of $31.59 million from PlayNow.com. Since its launch in 2022, PlayNow.com has attracted over 59,000 sign-ups.
Strong Growth of PlayNow
The approved gaming center pilot project will feature up to 49 slot machines and will be situated on Flying Dust First Nation, as part of a larger development that includes a strip mall, hotel, and conference center.
FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron noted, “This project will play a key role in the development of a new hotel that will benefit the people of Meadow Lake and northwest Saskatchewan. The growth will also benefit other First Nations across Treaty 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10 territories through equitable distribution of gaming profits.”
Increase in Slot Machine Allocation
The latest amendment to the GFA has raised SIGA’s slot machine allocation by 49, bringing the total number of machines to 2,619.
Established in 1996 by the province’s First Nations, SIGA operates seven casinos in Saskatchewan, offering various gaming options including slot machines, live table games, electronic table games, live entertainment, lounges, and restaurants.
