Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams has suffered a season-ending knee injury, following a game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. This unfortunate news has been confirmed by a recent MRI, which revealed a torn ACL.
The Chargers managed to secure their first victory of the season against the Vikings, but this triumph was dampened by the loss of Williams. The wide receiver had an impressive performance, catching seven passes for 121 yards and a touchdown before his injury.
Quarterback Justin Herbert expressed his disappointment at losing Williams, stating, “Such a devastating loss. You hate to see guys go down, especially Mike, but he’s a fighter and will be back as soon as he can.”
With Williams out, rookie wide receiver Joshua Palmer will take on a larger role as WR #2. The Chargers will also give Quention Johnston an opportunity to make an impact. As for their upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4, the Chargers opened as 4.5-point favorites.
Despite their 1-2 record, the Chargers still have a win total of 9.5 over/under for the season. They are currently +110 odds to make the playoffs, while the odds of missing the postseason are at -135. Last season, the Chargers made it to the playoffs as an AFC Wild Card team, and they are now aiming to reclaim their spot.
The Kansas City Chiefs are favored to win the AFC West, but the Chargers have a chance to challenge them with +350 odds to win the division. The Raiders are currently at +1100 odds, while the Denver Broncos are considered long shots with +3000 odds.
Looking ahead, the Chargers are now +1500 odds to win the AFC Championship. Although they have had a slow start, they remain a strong contender in their conference.
