Jones was apprehended by Texas Troopers in Wilson County just hours after he started shooting inside the casino, located on the Texas-Mexico border. This particular night was notably crowded as the venue was hosting a promotional raffle for a Mercedes-Benz E350 alongside various cash prizes.

According to local news sources, Jones is a former National Guardsman, who had previously served in Arizona and may have been absent without leave.

At 34 years old, he is facing charges of two counts of capital murder and five counts of aggravated assault, as stated by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.

Intensive Manhunt

Maverick County deputies received a call at around 11:45 p.m. to support tribal police amid reports of an active shooter. The gunfire caused chaos as patrons sought shelter, with many hiding under tables or making their way to the exits, as documented by People magazine.

The suspect managed to escape the scene in a black Nissan Frontier pickup, leading to a multi-agency pursuit, according to Maverick County law enforcement. Authorities utilized license plate readers to track the vehicle as it headed east from Eagle Pass toward Wilson County, near San Antonio.

Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety attempted to stop Jones near a Circle K in Stockdale, approximately 90 miles away from the casino. When he refused to pull over, law enforcement officials fired at his vehicle, partially immobilizing it. Jones continued to evade capture until officers executed a precise immobilization maneuver, at which point he was subdued using a Taser and arrested.

One Former Border Officer Dead

Among the deceased was Marcus “Mark” Antley, a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer, remembered fondly for his long service to the community, reported the San Antonio Express-News. The identity of the second victim has yet to be disclosed.

The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas, which owns the casino, expressed deep sorrow over the violence. As of Sunday, the casino remained closed while the investigation is ongoing.

The reason behind the attack continues to be unclear. Investigators executed a search warrant at Jones’s residence in San Antonio on Sunday, with the FBI assisting state authorities, according to the Express-News.
