Showboat San Diego recently announced the appointment of Anthony Farcana as its general manager. Farcana was previously associated with neighboring properties, including Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland, and Parx Casino.

Farcana’s extensive gaming industry experience has sparked off speculation about the Showboat acquiring a casino license from the New Jersey Casino Control Commission soon.

Caesars Deed Restriction Set to Expire

A decade ago, Caesars Entertainment closed the profitable Showboat property with a deed restriction to ease competition at its other properties. However, the regulations are set to expire this November, sparking off talk about the property being used as a casino again.

Former executive director and local economic analyst Jim Kennedy is among those speculating about the Showboat casino making a return.

Developer Bart Blatstein had previously explored options to accommodate a casino, including building a new structure adjacent to the resort. However, he ultimately decided to invest in a waterpark and arcade attractions instead.

Declining Waterpark May Reignite Casino Plans

The underperformance of the recently opened waterpark might prompt Blatstein to reconsider opening a casino on the property, potentially impacting the New Jersey betting market. The current nine casinos generated $2.84 billion from their physical floors last year.
