Odds Remain Steady for Host Nations
Spain, the leading contender, maintains its odds at +450 to clinch the World Cup at theScore Bet, while Caesars Sportsbook lists them at +400. DraftKings also rates Spain as the favorite at +450, and FanDuel matches this at +400.
Among the leading teams, England’s odds have shifted from +600 to +550 after being drawn with Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Conversely, France’s odds decreased from +650 to +700 following their draw with Senegal, Norway, and the yet-to-be-determined playoff winner.
The three host nations—USA (+5000), Mexico (+5000), and Canada (+10000)—saw no changes in their odds after the draw, with theScore Bet featuring a special market for either Canada or the U.S. to reach the Quarterfinals at +170.
Portugal, attracting the highest interest for World Cup betting at theScore Bet, holds +1000 odds, sixth overall.
Top Goalscorer Odds
TheScore Bet lists Kylian Mbappe at +600, Harry Kane at +700, Lionel Messi at +1200, Erling Haaland at +1400, Lamine Yamal at +1400, and Cristiano Ronaldo at +2000.
Noteworthy insights on the World Cup odds: Portugal (+1000) attracted 6.5% of bets with 18.9% of the handle; England (+550) claims 15.7% of bets with a 17.7% handle; Spain (+450) took 17.6% of bets with 14.5% of the handle; and France (+700) received 17.9% of bets with a 13.5% handle. The U.S. ranks 11th in handle (1.8%) with 2.4% of bets, while Canada sits 17th in handle at 0.5%, with 1.1% of bets.
“Since the initial book release in December 2022, significant shifts have occurred in the odds for Spain, England, and Brazil. Spain opened at +800 but shortened after winning Euro 2024,” stated Mark Bickerdike, Head of Soccer at Caesars Sportsbook. “Their odds further tightened after an unbeaten qualifying run of 31 matches. They are currently leading the betting at +400. Brazil’s odds have drifted from +600 to +800 due to their inconsistent qualifying results and a recent defeat to Japan in October.”
Notable Winners Post-Draw
Following the draw, Bickerdike noted minimal shifts in odds due to the expanded format with 32 teams proceeding to the knockout stages.
However, the clear winners appear to be the USA, England, and Argentina, as their market odds have improved slightly. France is the notable team to see its odds drift, primarily after drawing against a strong Norway team.
Caesars will introduce more betting markets as the World Cup approaches. A significant number of additional options will be offered once all qualifying paths are finalized in March, with even more markets becoming available after the final rosters are confirmed at the end of May.
“Soccer ranks just behind Football, Basketball, and Baseball as Caesars’ most sought-after betting sport, so anticipation for next summer’s World Cup is exceptionally high,” he added.
High Betting Handle Anticipated
Bickerdike remarked that the tournament’s extended duration and U.S.-friendly timing are expected to yield the largest betting handle for a soccer event in history.
Preparations are already in place to ensure Caesars’ bettors have access to more markets, innovative products, and promotions than ever before, he concluded.
