- Matthew Stafford achieved 368 passing yards and 2 touchdowns in Sunday’s victory against the Detroit Lions
- Josh Allen orchestrated a remarkable comeback for the Buffalo Bills from a 21-0 deficit to defeat the New England Patriots
- Only three games remain in the NFL’s regular season
Fans and bettors tuning in to the Buffalo Bills’ snowy showdown against the New England Patriots were likely pondering the shifts in NFL MVP odds after quarterback Josh Allen propelled his team back from a 21-0 deficit to secure a thrilling 35-31 victory.

Allen completed the match with a 19/28 passing record, totaling 193 yards and three touchdowns, along with 48 rushing yards, further establishing himself as one of the league’s premier quarterbacks. The Bills (10-4) are ramping up their chase for the AFC East title, narrowing the gap on the leading Patriots (11-3).
Both the Bills and the Patriots have three games left in their schedules, with the Bills facing a comparatively lighter workload. The Bills will travel to Cleveland to face the Browns, followed by home contests against the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets. Meanwhile, the Patriots have road games against the Ravens in Baltimore and the Jets in New York, before concluding their season at home against the Miami Dolphins.
Maye’s Odds Decline
As of Tuesday morning, BetMGM released updated stats indicating that the Patriots are the favored team to win the AFC East, garnering the most bets (44.9%) and handle (49.3%) among the division teams.
“We observed significant fluctuations in MVP betting for the Bills/Patriots game, especially with the Patriots initially leading,” noted Joey Feazel, head of football at Caesars Sportsbook. “The Bills’ comeback not only boosted Josh Allen’s MVP odds but also negatively impacted Drake Maye after a lackluster second half.”
Remarkable Bills Comeback
Although Maye had a chance to revive the Patriots’ hopes near the end of the game, he couldn’t capitalize. He finished 14/23 for 155 yards. Maye had a strong first half with two rushing touchdowns, establishing a seemingly unreachable lead, while the Bills struggled with only one successful possession in the first half. However, the second half told a different story.
According to a representative from theScore Bet, Allen ranks third in the MVP standings behind QB Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams and Maye, as has been the case for the past few weeks. He accounts for 11.1% of the handle wagered since Sunday, trailing Maye’s 11.2%, while Stafford captures 55.1% of the handle during that timeframe.
Stafford’s Strong Performance
Interestingly, Allen leads in total bets with 29.6%, followed by Bo Nix at 17.4%, Maye at 13.6%, and Stafford at 10.6%.
“Matthew Stafford had an outstanding performance on [Sunday], exceeding 350 passing yards and tossing two touchdowns (leading the Rams to a 41-34 victory over the Lions), solidifying his standing as a frontrunner,” remarked Feazel.
A glance at Tuesday’s sportsbook reveals sharper odds. At DraftKings, Stafford remains the frontrunner at -300, followed by Maye at +425, and Allen at +550. At Caesars, Stafford is at -280, Maye at +425, and Allen at +500. FanDuel lists Stafford at -260, Maye at +380, and Allen at +600.
Intense Three-Way MVP Competition
“At this juncture in the season, three standout candidates are competing for the MVP title,” stated Johnny Avello, the Las Vegas bookmaker and director of race & sportsbook at DraftKings. “Matthew Stafford stands as the front-runner for his first ever MVP title, while Drake Maye has been impressive throughout the year. Josh Allen continues to gain momentum following consecutive comeback victories.”
“Stafford has a prime opportunity to potentially capture the award on Thursday night in a critical matchup against Seattle. We will be monitoring both Maye and Allen closely and will adjust the odds as the season progresses,” he added.
The MVP race promises to be fascinating in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Allen has a knack for thriving in snowy weather. The Rams are favored to win the Super Bowl at +310, followed by the Seattle Seahawks at +650, and the Denver Broncos at +800. The Bills also share the +800 odds. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs have been officially eliminated from playoff contention, with QB Patrick Mahomes undergoing ACL surgery on Monday.
