An alleged robber turned himself in on Monday morning after a robbery at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino in Reno, Nevada.
The suspect initially resisted surrendering to the police, but eventually gave himself up about four hours later, as reported by Reno TV station KRNV.
The robbery occurred around 4 a.m. on Monday, with the victims alerting the local police.
Police identified the suspect and went to the 30th floor of the hotel where he was located in a guest room armed with a gun. It was unclear if the gun was loaded.
Guests in nearby rooms were evacuated for their safety, according to the authorities.
SWAT Team Intervention
The Reno Police Department’s SWAT team and other officers responded to the scene, with trained officers negotiating with the suspect for hours before he agreed to surrender.
At around 8:30 a.m., the suspect exited the hotel room peacefully. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported. The suspect was handed over to local prosecutors after his arrest.
Disturbance Reported
Several hotel guests were shocked by the incident.
“Around 3 a.m., my girlfriend and I heard commotion in the hallway. There was a man trying to enter a room across from ours, then we heard yelling and screaming about a robbery. At around 3:15 a.m., we were woken up by more banging and someone demanding to be let in,” said hotel guest Kevan Shaw, as reported by Nevada TV station KOLO.
Shaw and his girlfriend were asked to leave their room around 5:45 a.m., according to the report.
Guests were allowed to return to their rooms following the suspect’s arrest.
The suspect’s identity was not immediately disclosed by the police, and no motive was provided for barricading himself in the room or for robbing the initial victims.
Police assured that other hotel guests were not in danger as it was an isolated incident.
The Silver Legacy at The Row boasts almost 1,700 rooms and is situated on North Virginia Street in Reno, Nevada.
