James Ormsby, 58, has been charged with driving while intoxicated — physical injury to law enforcement, according to Missouri TV station KMOV.

Ormsby was apprehended and is currently held on a $30K cash-only bond.

The incident occurred on August 14 while the unnamed officer was on duty at Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

He witnessed Ormsby drive around barricades and attempted to stop him by stepping into the road and signaling with his hands. However, Ormsby failed to comply and struck the officer with the front of his vehicle.

Officer Forced Onto Hood

Due to the impact, the officer was forced onto the hood of the car before falling onto the pavement.

Ormsby still did not stop his vehicle but eventually drove over a curb, leading to the vehicle’s halt.

Additional officers arrived at the scene to apprehend Ormsby. They reported that his eyes appeared glassy and watery, his speech was slurred, and he leaned on the car for support when trying to stand.

Ormsby claimed to have only consumed a single drink earlier that day, but three empty vodka bottles were found in his car during a search by the police.

Following the incident, Ormsby voluntarily took a blood alcohol test at a local hospital, but the results have not been disclosed.

The extent of the police officer’s injuries has not been disclosed by the authorities.

The case has been handed over to local prosecutors.
