Authorities are searching for a 17-year-old suspect believed to have shot a security guard dead at the Pickering Casino Resort last month.
Tyjae Nosworthy-Smith is wanted in connection with the murder of Michael Ferdinand, 34, at the Ontario resort.
The Durham Regional Police (DRP) identified him as a suspect last week. According to CBC News, authorities are seeking second-degree murder charges against him.
DRP Detective Sgt. Brad Corner appealed for the public’s help in finding him,
Nosworthy-Smith, a Black male, is approximately 5-feet, 8-inches tall, and 110 pounds. He has a tattoo that reads “Chantelle” on his left elbow and goes by the nickname “Baby2.” Police believe he may be residing in the Jane and Finch area of northwestern Toronto.
Police have warned the public that Nosworthy-Smith is armed and dangerous, urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 911 immediately.
He was identified as a suspect after detectives interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video footage.
Other Suspects
Authorities are looking into other suspects who may be linked to the shooting. Numerous bullets were fired at Ferdinand while he was on duty inside the casino.
The motive behind the murder has not been disclosed. Ferdinand was shot on Thanksgiving Day.
“We now owe it to [Ferdinand’s] family, friends and co-workers to bring those responsible to justice,” Corner told CBC News.
Ferdinand succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a trauma center.
Fundraiser for Family
A GoFundMe page has raised $37,390 to support the guard’s family following his tragic death.
According to another security guard, Viny Cuellar, “Our brother was taken from us … way too soon by a senseless act of gun violence that had no reason to ever be escalated to that extent.”
Proceeds from the fundraiser will help the guard’s widow, Mara, and other relatives,”
All funds will go to the family to “help ease the pain, and help the financial burden of losing the irreplaceable Mike Ferdinand.”
