Temporary Live! Casino Virginia in Petersburg launches with $15 million in community contributions

Live! Casino Virginia has launched its temporary gaming facility in Petersburg, a project spearheaded by The Cordish Companies alongside Bruce Smith Enterprise. This ambitious $1.4 billion resort initiative is set to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and enhance tourism in the region.

Conveniently located off I-95 at Exit 48B, the casino is positioned 25 miles south of Richmond and 45 miles north of the North Carolina state line. The temporary venue boasts 75,000 square feet of gaming space, featuring over 900 slot machines and 30+ live-action table games, alongside a signature bar and a quick-service dining option. It operates around the clock, seven days a week, with more than 1,000 complimentary parking spots available.

During the inaugural festivities, the developers generously donated $15,050,000 to the City of Petersburg and local charities. This substantial donation is part of a larger commitment from the developers, with future allocations to be managed by a Community Advisory Board.

The funds will be directed towards vital community services such as childcare, elderly care, affordable housing, education, and workforce development. Additionally, $50,000 raised during a charity test event on January 20 was shared between Feed More and the John Randolph Foundation.

The impact of Live! Casino Virginia on Petersburg is truly significant,” remarked Petersburg Mayor Samuel Parham. “This project is set to transform the Tri-Cities and positively influence the future of our community.”

Bruce Smith, founder of Bruce Smith Enterprise, stated: “Live! Casino Virginia aims to be a premier destination, and as someone who is deeply invested in this community, I take pride in fostering opportunities that enrich, empower, and contribute to the community for years to come.

So far, the facility has created over 500 permanent jobs, including more than 100 positions for table games dealers. Recruitment efforts continue across various sectors including gaming, security, hospitality, and more.

In line with its community outreach efforts, the casino has initiated the “Live! Change Maker” program, enabling visitors to donate spare change from their winnings. The Virginia State University Foundation will be the initial beneficiary, with contributions collected until March 31, 2026.

The permanent Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in late 2027. The final project will encompass a 200-room hotel, an expanded gaming area with 1,600 slot machines, 60 table games, a dedicated poker room, a sportsbook, and roughly 20 dining and entertainment facilities.
