Unionized Tropicana Las Vegas and The Mirage employees have given support for upcoming five-year labor agreements in recent news.
Upon approval by union members, the contracts will cover approximately 2,000 Culinary Union workers. The union’s announcement via social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, described the deal as the “best contract ever.” While no details were immediately provided, it was hailed as a positive step by union member Marcus Lucas.
“Crafting this agreement was a collaborative effort between Hard Rock and the Culinary Union,” said Mirage President Joe Lupo. “We appreciate our team’s hard work over the past year at The Mirage.”
Tropicana Demolition
Despite the contract, The Tropicana Las Vegas casino hotel is set to be demolished. This move is conditioned on whether the Oakland Athletics (A’s) baseball team relocates to Las Vegas, potentially happening in late 2024 or 2025.
At the same time, unionized workers at Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas have also approved a tentative agreement. However, union officials have issued a warning that a strike is possible for some 10,000 employees at hotel casinos if negotiations with other Nevada properties fail.
Comparative Contract Terms
Last month, Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge expressed the desire for similar economic packages to be applied to contracts for Las Vegas Strip properties and downtown properties.
