As per the findings of the Public Gaming Research Institute, an analyst from Deutsche Bank named Carlo Santarelli has communicated to investors that MGM Resorts is looking into innovative strategies to boost revenues, such as implementing tiered seating in its restaurants.
With the shift towards digital operations impacting MGM’s revenues from physical casinos, the company recently raised resort and parking fees at its 12 Strip properties.
Details about the specific implementation of tiered seating in MGM’s restaurants remain undisclosed by Santarelli, and MGM has chosen to remain silent on this speculation.
Notably, tiered restaurant seating is already practiced in select restaurants in Las Vegas. For instance, at the Strat’s Top of the World restaurant, as well as at the Eiffel Tower overlooking the Bellagio fountains at Caesars Entertainment’s Paris Las Vegas.
If implemented, MGM’s tiered seating is likely to extend to all or most of its restaurants, necessitating non-Strip view locations to enhance the appeal of certain tables over others.
Several establishments like Bellagio’s Yellowtail, Picasso, and Mizumi have historically enforced a “minimum spend” policy for terrace seating with prime views at various attractions in Las Vegas.
Online reactions to these potential changes have been heavily critical.
“It is generous that they even call these ‘strategies,’” commented redditor @jhussong91. “The strategy is just to price gouge every way possible.”
“Premium standing fee — extra $15,” remarked redditor @krowofefas.
“I wouldn’t bitch if it was just a select few places for very select reasons (i.e.: Bellagio fountain-side table),” noted redditor @Muted_Cucumber_6937. “But I know corporations and they are going to tier the fucking McDonalds if they can.”
