If you’re looking for a betting trend to follow in the National Football League (NFL) after Week 2, consider betting against the Miami Dolphins and supporting the Buffalo Bills – especially when it comes to the over, says Bob Scucci, vice-president of Race and Sports Operations at Boyd Gaming Corp.

“Two of the biggest games so far this season have been the Bills and the over, in both Week 1 and 2, with the Bills covering both times,” he said. “Bettors tend to stick with teams that make them money, so they’re likely to keep backing the Bills until they disappoint.”
Backing the Buffalo Bills
The Bills started their season strong by defeating the Texans in Houston 36-31, followed by a convincing 41-31 win over the Detroit Lions at home on Thursday (Sept. 17). Both games went over the total and were not close contests.
Next, the Bills will face the 0-2 Los Angeles Chargers at home on Sunday (Sept. 27) with a 1 p.m. EDT kickoff.
“We’re already seeing action on the Bills against the Chargers, especially after the Chargers’ 26-14 loss to the Raiders on Sunday (Sept. 20),” Scucci added. “This makes it even more appealing to bet on the Bills, and bettors are likely to fade the Dolphins every week as well.”
Bet Against the Miami Dolphins
Similar to other sportsbooks in Las Vegas, there is significant liability on the Las Vegas Raiders, who are now 2-0 after a big win in Los Angeles.
“I think the Raiders are surpassing expectations and gaining more support than anticipated,” Scucci mentioned. “There’s a lot of sentimental backing in Las Vegas, and the Raiders are our most significant liability in the futures-bet market to win the Super Bowl. While their first game against Miami didn’t carry much weight due to the Dolphins’ low standing, the Raiders played well nonetheless.
“Following their recent win against the Chargers, they are likely to attract even more support due to their impressive underdog performance.”
Growing Raiders Liability
Week 1 saw many favorites prevail, but Sunday’s games in Week 2 favored the sportsbooks more, with several upsets and highly-anticipated teams failing to win or cover the spread.
Some notable victories for Boyd Gaming were the Eagles failing to cover against the Titans, the Saints upsetting the Ravens, and the Browns defeating the Bucs. In the later games, the 49ers, Seahawks, and Cowboys all secured wins.
Christian Cipollini, a senior trading manager at BetMGM, expressed that after a successful Week 1 for bettors, having one or two of the Browns, Saints, Titans, and Dolphins covering would make a significant difference.
Week 2 Game Results
Joey Feazel, head of football at Caesars Sportsbook, noted the striking difference between the scoring patterns in Week 1 and Week 2.
“We witnessed high-scoring primetime games in Week 1, but Week 2 kicked off with a plethora of touchdowns on Thursday night,” Feazel stated. “Seven of the eight popular touchdown scorers delivered, with the only exception being DJ Moore, who was refunded due to injury.”
At Caesars Sportsbook, the Lions-Bills game was favorable for bettors, while the Vikings-Bears matchup was a win for the book.
Notable Betting Outcomes
“Sunday’s early games presented a different scenario,” Feazel observed. “Underdogs and strong defenses shined, offenses were subdued, and touchdowns were harder to come by. While Week 1 seemed full of scoring, Week 2 required a bit more effort to find the end zone.”
A $100 parlay for the Lions-Bills game paid out $50,000, showcasing the potential for big wins in touchdown parlays.
