A nude man is accused of engaging in a physical altercation with a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officer on Tuesday night before stealing and driving off in the officer’s vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Clyde Cabulisan of Las Vegas, fled the scene in the LVMPD’s Metro Ford F-150 and ultimately crashed into another vehicle following a high-speed chase through the city streets.
Cabulisan, the other driver, and her passenger sustained injuries from the crash.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. near the intersection of Blue Diamond Road and Buffalo Drive in the unincorporated town of Enterprise, Nev.
Upon receiving reports of a nude man on the street, the first responding officer confronted the suspect and a physical altercation ensued.
During the struggle, the officer fell to the ground, allowing Cabulisan to take control of the police vehicle and flee the scene.
Heading north on Rainbow Boulevard, Cabulisan’s actions prompted the officer to report the stolen vehicle to headquarters.
A pursuit by multiple Metro officers followed, spanning over five miles, as reported by Las Vegas TV station KLAS.
Critical Injuries
Eventually, Cabulisan crossed into oncoming traffic and drove through a red light at Hacienda Avenue, resulting in a collision with a civilian-operated Ford Explorer.
The 34-year-old female driver and a 43-year-old male passenger in the SUV sustained critical injuries from the crash and were rushed to University Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Updated information on the victims’ conditions was not immediately available. The initial responding officer suffered minor injuries.
Cabulisan also sustained injuries and received treatment at University Medical Center.
Witness Watched Struggle
A passerby named Kyle Even witnessed the struggle and recorded a video.
“You got a cop and a naked dude,” Even told KLAS. “I thought he was going to be handcuffed and thrown to the ground.”
“I was just glad the cop didn’t get run over,” Even said.
According to online jail records, it appears that the suspect has been booked at Clark County Detention Center since Wednesday.
Police have charged Cabulisan with robbery, driver disobeying peace officer and endangering people/property, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, and battery on a protected person, as reported by KLAS.
Cabulisan is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. If convicted, he may face a significant prison sentence.
Mental Health Issue
Initial police accounts suggest that Cabulisan may have been “possibly experiencing a mental health crisis,” as reported by Las Vegas TV station KTNV.
