Garrett Popcorn Shops, located in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, was temporarily shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) after receiving 14 demerits during a routine evaluation on February 18.
The gourmet popcorn shop was noted for the following issues:
- Insufficient backflow prevention and improper disposal of wastewater and sewage (5)
- Food not safeguarded from potential cross-contamination (3)
- Food not secured against contamination by employees and customers (3)
- Inadequately stocked and accessible handwashing sinks (3)
Businesses that face closure by the SNHD are permitted to rectify the identified issues promptly and then request an immediate follow-up inspection. If all hazards are addressed, they can reopen and have the closure removed from SNHD’s official site.
A message left at Garrett’s corporate offices on Sunday did not receive an immediate response.
Modern English Concept
Kevin Jeffers, a previous culinary operations manager for Station Casinos, is set to replace the Pepper Club at the English Hotel with a novel concept named KJ’s, after his initials.
Jeffers describes the restaurant to the Las Vegas Review-Journal as “a modern American dining venue and social bar that emphasizes a community-centered dining experience.” An opening date has yet to be announced.
The Pepper Club was launched in 2022 by Todd English in the hotel associated with the renowned chef. It closed in December for reasons typical in Las Vegas — underperformance or allegations of misconduct, as noted by our colleague Vital Vegas. In this case, both factors may have played a role.
Dining Updates
Osteria Fiorella at Red Rock Station will soon join Fiorella Pasta Bar at Durango Station in closure, according to Vital Vegas. While no closing date is available for Osteria, the latter is set to close on March 27. Both establishments were initiated by James Beard-awarded chef Marc Vetri, known for his Vetri Cucina in Philadelphia — Osteria debuted in July 2020, while Fiorella Pasta Bar opened in December 2023. A location of Vetri Cucino at the Palms operated from March 2020 until late 2025.
Charter 75 Modern Kitchen has recently opened at Boyd Gaming’s Gold Coast Casino, located just west of the Rio on West Flamingo Road. The restaurant, named after the founding year of Boyd Gaming in 1975, takes the place of TGI Friday’s and offers a menu that is not entirely dissimilar.
