Queen is reportedly in discussions for a residency at the new Las Vegas Sphere, as confirmed by Rolling Stone on Thursday. Vocalist Adam Lambert is set to take on the iconic role once filled by the legendary Freddie Mercury.

“I’m very excited about the Sphere,” stated guitarist Brian May. “I watched the Eagles perform and thought, ‘We could create something amazing here.’ We are actively discussing it.”

A residency at the Sphere would be ideal for May and drummer Roger Taylor, who, at ages 78 and 76 respectively, still enjoy performing but prefer not to tour extensively.

“After 50 years of touring, part of me believes that I’ve done enough,” May remarked to Rolling Stone. “Right now, my inclination is not to go on a full tour. However, I still wish to perform and explore new ideas.”

A Queen residency aligns perfectly with the Sphere’s concept. The band toured extensively from 2019 until February of this year, playing over 100 arenas and stadiums, each seating between 15,000 and 20,000.

Some dedicated Queen enthusiasts may feel that a residency featuring the runner-up from Season 8 of “American Idol” isn’t quite the same, given that Mercury was a vital part of the band.

However, there might be alternatives to this perspective.

Each act at the Sphere generates unique video content for the impressive 360,000 square foot screen. It’s conceivable to envision Freddie’s digitally remastered image and voice taking the stage alongside his former bandmates for at least one performance—or perhaps several.

Sheeran’s Summer Return

Typically, it’s the artists headlining major stadium shows who may feel anxious about their performances. Yet for Ed Sheeran, who is set to return to Allegiant Stadium on July 18 as part of his North American “Loop” tour, it’s the fans who might be the ones with heightened anxiety.

Previously, when Sheeran announced a concert at Allegiant, many fans traveled to Las Vegas, only to find out 90 minutes before the event that it had been canceled due to a serious flooring problem.

Sheeran rescheduled the concert for October 28, 2023, but that doesn’t guarantee that all fans who had tickets for the initial show could return to Las Vegas.

Tickets for his upcoming concert next summer will be available starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 26, through Ticketmaster.

New Year’s with Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon have revealed they will host New Year’s Eve shows on December 30 and 31 at the Venetian Theater.

A press release promises fans an “up-close and personal experience,” where the Tennessee trio will perform their greatest hits in a special show tailored for Las Vegas.

Tickets for “Kings of Leon: Live in Las Vegas” will be available starting at 10 a.m. PT Saturday, September 27, at kingsofleon.com. (Presales are currently available.)
