A guest who visited the Venetian in Las Vegas in 2022 has filed a lawsuit claiming that he was forcefully pushed to the ground by security officers at the casino resort. This incident resulted in him being in a coma for two days and suffering lasting physical and mental injuries.
The lawsuit, filed by Javier Marquez of Los Angeles and reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, alleges that Marquez was approached by two Venetian security officers for wearing his pants below his waist, which they claimed was in line with current fashion trends. The officers stated that they received reports of a man exposing himself, and Marquez matched the description. Marquez was in Las Vegas celebrating his birthday with his wife at the time.
Despite the officers offering to accompany Marquez to his hotel room to change, which he declined, they proceeded to restrain him mechanically and place him in a wheelchair, as stated in the complaint.
According to the lawsuit, a third officer arrived and forcefully pushed Marquez to the ground, causing him to lose consciousness due to a head injury. He woke up in a local hospital two days later, finding that he had suffered damage to his right eye, face, jaw, and lost several teeth.
The lawsuit details Marquez’s ongoing emotional and mental struggles, including severe pain, cognitive decline, and difficulties in daily activities, leading to financial strain in operating his business.
Marquez’s wife, Nancy Marquez, is also listed as a plaintiff, citing the emotional distress of seeing her husband undergo such a traumatic event and the loss of their companionship and partnership as a result.
Additionally, the lawsuit names Alexis Padilla, the Venetian’s duty manager, for allegedly not ensuring an incident report was filed following the incident.
