Hundreds Cited During DUI Enforcement
Nearly 300 motorists were arrested or received citations for DUI and other offenses over the recent weekend in Nevada.
Officials in Nevada disclosed:
- 540 vehicles were stopped
- 255 citations were issued
- 32 DUI arrests were made
- 13 arrests were made for other offenses
Remember that one DUI arrest could potentially save a life, and that life could have been a loved one or friend,” Nevada State Police Major Kevin Honea emphasized in a recent statement.
The enforcement effort was dedicated to honoring Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix.
Both officers tragically passed away as a result of injuries sustained from an intoxicated driver on I-15 in Las Vegas on November 30, 2023, authorities confirmed.
Keeping their memory alive means something to all of us,” Honea expressed. “Our message tonight is to save a life in tribute to Felix and Abbate.”
Vegas Cops Boost Security for Shoppers
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has increased its presence with the commencement of the holiday shopping season.
The heightened enforcement began over Thanksgiving weekend and will extend through December.
Officers will be on alert in shopping centers and other popular retail destinations.
Some of the locations with increased police presence include Target, Walmart, and the Las Vegas North Premium Outlets, as per law enforcement officials.
Certain officers will be in uniform, while others will operate undercover. LVMPD will also utilize drones for enhanced surveillance.
“During the holiday season, typically from Thanksgiving to year-end, there is an uptick in theft at retail establishments,” LVMPD Captain Johnathan Riddle shared in an interview with Las Vegas TV station KTNV. “The mere presence of law enforcement—our expectation is for criminals to be deterred from areas where crimes of opportunity traditionally occur.”
To enhance security, shoppers are advised to take precautions such as storing purchased items in the trunk or out of sight in their vehicles. It is also recommended to return home and unload items in between shopping stops.
Criminals seek opportunities where individuals are not vigilant, so remain aware,” Riddle cautioned.
