- Reports indicate Great Canadian Entertainment has divested casino assets to alleviate debt.
- Casino Vancouver is the most recent property to change hands.
- OLG appoints new Chief Lottery Officer.
In a thorough investigation by the Times Colonist in British Columbia, insights were revealed regarding the divestment strategy of Great Canadian Entertainment, which has seen the company selling off several casinos in B.C. over the past year—a topic we’ve been closely following.

The most recent announcement noted the sale of Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam to Petroglyph Development Group (PDG) last December.
PDG is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, and this acquisition positions PDG to become a prominent player in the Canadian casino landscape.
Details on the Casino Vancouver Transaction
The Casino Vancouver transaction marks the fifth significant casino acquisition by PDG from Great Canadian, following previous sales including Casino Nanaimo, Elements Casino Victoria, River Rock Casino Resort, and Chances Maple Ridge.
Additionally, Great Canadian has sold Elements Casino Chilliwack to Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe Management Ltd. and Hastings Casino to Tsleil-Waututh Nation in 2025.
The Times Colonist referenced an analysis by the bond-rating agency S&P Global, which revealed that Great Canadian collected between $650 million to $675 million from these property sales to reduce its debt, following the acquisition of Great Canadian by a New York private equity firm for $3.3 billion in 2021. Investors are eagerly seeking a return on their investments.
Great Canadian manages a variety of casino properties throughout Canada.
We attempted to contact Great Canadian Entertainment for further insights, but have yet to receive a response.
