The coaching landscape has shifted to three vacancies – earlier today, the Buffalo Bills elevated offensive coordinator Joe Brady to the role of head coach. An Adam Schefter report followed, suggesting that Brady is interested in hiring Jim Leonhard, the defensive pass coordinator of the Denver Broncos, as the Bills’ defensive coordinator.

Currently, head coach vacancies remain in Arizona, Cleveland, and Las Vegas.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, one challenge for the Raiders is the uncertainty surrounding who is directing the organization. Minority owner Tom Brady appears to be involved alongside general manager John Spytek, though Brady is based in Miami and also serves as a Fox NFL analyst.

Who’s Steering the Ship?

His limited physical presence at the Las Vegas facility has raised concerns, as reported.

The Athletic has noted that Brady’s business partner and wellness coordinator, Alex Guerrero, is reporting back on the team’s operations. This raises questions about the effectiveness of such management.

Nonetheless, former Bills offensive coordinator and New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has had consecutive interviews, with an ESPN report indicating that the Tennessee Titans could appoint Daboll as their offensive coordinator if he isn’t selected by the Raiders.

Daboll’s Coaching Aspirations

Davis Webb, a 31-year-old offensive strategist from the Broncos, remains a prominent candidate, also having completed two interviews with the Raiders. Klint Kubiak, the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, is still in contention. The Raiders have already missed several targets they were interested in – Mike McDaniels accepted the L.A. Chargers’ OC role, while Jesse Minter was hired as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens before the announcement of Brady’s appointment today, who had undergone two interviews himself prior to accepting the Bills position.

The Raiders are equipped with attractive assets – including tight end Brock Bowers and running back Ashton Jeanty, alongside the highest cap space in the league at $81 million, and the top pick in this spring’s NFL draft, with overwhelming odds favoring them to select Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza (-8000 at DraftKings). Speculation is rife that star edge rusher Maxx Crosby may be traded.

Ultimately, the focus remains on stability in Las Vegas, as owner Mark Davis seems to be torn in different directions. The previous year’s strategy was to enlist 74-year-old Pete Carroll as head coach, leading to a trade for quarterback Geno Smith from Seattle. How has that worked out? The Raiders concluded the season with a dismal 3-14 record.
