The Kansas City Police Department is asking the public for assistance in their investigation into a late-night shooting that resulted in a fatality.

Law enforcement responded to Bally’s Casino on East Front Street around 11:45 PM CDT. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive man near a vehicle in the parking garage. Emergency responders rushed him to a local hospital, but he was later declared dead.

Police spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina informed the media that preliminary investigations indicate the victim was with a group that engaged in a confrontation with another party in the parking area. The verbal exchange escalated, resulting in gunfire, with one bullet hitting the victim. The involved groups quickly dispersed afterward.

Authorities believe this incident is isolated in nature and encourage anyone with information to contact 816-474-TIPS (8477). Tips can be made anonymously and may qualify for a reward of up to $25,000.

Second Shooting Incident at Bally’s Casino This Year

Only a few months ago, in February, the parking lot of Bally’s Kansas City Casino witnessed another fatal shooting.

As reported by Casino.org, an 18-year-old male lost his life outside the casino, although this incident took place in a surface parking lot rather than the garage.

Authorities revealed that a confrontation inside the casino spilled outside into the parking lot. The victim was later identified as Aundre Harris Jr. One suspect was apprehended at the scene.

Given that casinos only allow individuals aged 21 and over, it remains unclear how Harris gained entry to Bally’s Casino during the initial altercation. The investigation is ongoing, with no charges filed against the detained suspect at this time.

Crime Rates in Kansas City

The deadly incident at Bally’s Kansas City was among two murders reported overnight in the city. Authorities also responded to a fatal shooting near South 37th Street around 5 AM, discovering a man lying on the roadway who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have only identified the victim as an “adult male.” A person of interest is currently in custody.

While overall crime rates in Kansas City have shown a downward trend, the city continues to grapple with a surge in violent crime.

Although Kansas City experienced a 5% decline in homicides in 2025, 183 murders were still reported. The city is known for having one of the highest per-capita homicide rates in the nation.

With approximately 25 homicides per 100,000 individuals, Kansas City ranks eighth among large U.S. cities for homicide rates. Only cities like New Orleans (46 per 100K), Memphis (41), St. Louis (38), Baltimore (36), Washington, DC (36), Birmingham (28), and Philadelphia (26) surpass Kansas City’s rate.
