Huntridge History
Discover the fascinating history of the Huntridge Theater. Built on the land of international business magnate Leigh S. J. Hunt, the theater was designed by renowned architect S. Charles Lee. With its grand opening on October 10, 1944, the Huntridge hosted premieres of first-run movies and attracted Hollywood stars such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Marlene Dietrich.
Did you know that Bud Abbott and Lou Costello performed live on the Huntridge stage in 1947 to promote their movie “Buck Privates Come Home”? The theater has seen its fair share of iconic moments!
In 1951, the consortium partially owned by actresses Loretta Young and Irene Dunne took over operations, making the Huntridge the first desegregated theater in Las Vegas. The ’70s marked a decline for the theater, but it found new life as a concert venue in 1992. Artists like the Beastie Boys, Green Day, and the Killers graced its stage and further established its prominence in the music scene.
While the theater faced challenges from newer casino venues in the following years, its legacy endured. Now, with the upcoming renovations, the Huntridge is set to recapture its former glory and continue its contribution to the vibrant Las Vegas entertainment scene.
