The top two presidential contenders are set to make appearances in the Las Vegas area on Halloween, just days ahead of the upcoming election.
Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have announced plans to attend events in Clark County on Thursday.
Trump is scheduled to appear at Lee’s Family Forum at 3:30 p.m. Harris will address a crowd at an undisclosed location in Las Vegas between 5 and 9 p.m.
The rally featuring musical group Maná, a Mexican pop band, alongside Harris may be a strategic move to appeal to Latino voters.
Trump has been making efforts to garner support from Latino voters, but recent controversies such as an offensive joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a rally could impact his standing.
Nevada’s significant Latino population is crucial for securing the state’s electoral votes in the presidential election.
Hispanics and Latinos make up about 28.3% of Nevada’s population, with 20% of registered voters in the state being Latino.
Trump’s Latino Outreach
Earlier, Trump engaged with Latino voters in North Las Vegas on October 12, addressing topics like inflation, illegal immigration, and drugs.
“It’s an honor to have you on my side,” Trump expressed to the predominantly Latino audience at the rally in North Las Vegas.
Key speakers at the event included Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanu and Nicole Williams, a Las Vegas resident and Trump supporter.
“We haven’t been able to do the things we want to do,” Williams stated. “I want a future for my kids.”
Trump also participated in a Unite For Change event targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Las Vegas last week, acknowledging the importance of the Asian American vote in Nevada.
Political Divide in the US
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’s running mate, attended a Las Vegas Raiders-Kansas City Chiefs football watch party, emphasizing the importance of key states like Nevada in the election.
“Nevada is one of the states that will determine the outcome of the election,” Walz stated at the event. “Our country is divided, but ultimately, it will be decided by the people out there speaking to their neighbors.”
Door-to-door canvassing efforts in Las Vegas are ongoing, with representatives from the Culinary Union playing a significant role in promoting Harris’s campaign.
“I’m concerned about the hatred that Trump has put out there, the division, and the lies that he tells,” expressed Morlaina Bruce, a member of the Culinary Union in Las Vegas.
The divide in the country’s political landscape was further evident when Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo announced the activation of the National Guard to support local police during Election Day.
Recent polls show a close race between Trump and Harris in Nevada, with Trump currently leading in betting odds for the upcoming election.
