Crypto.com and Robinhood Allegedly Discussing Prediction Market Opportunities

Crypto.com and Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) are reportedly exploring a partnership in the prediction market space, which would enhance Robinhood’s range of event contracts.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that both brokerage firms are in talks to integrate Crypto.com’s prediction markets into Robinhood’s offerings, enabling Robinhood users to access Crypto.com’s event contracts seamlessly from their current platform.

This news arrives as Robinhood is establishing itself as a significant contender in the prediction market arena. Bernstein recently projected that Robinhood’s event contracts division could exceed cryptocurrency revenue, with predictions suggesting potential earnings of $1.7 billion by 2028.

Based in California, Robinhood has highlighted that its prediction markets represent one of the fastest-expanding sectors in its history, and analysts suggest that its yes/no derivatives could have become its fastest-growing segment as recently as Q2.

Exploring Collaborative Opportunities in Prediction Markets

While it’s uncertain whether Crypto.com and Robinhood will publicly confirm their cooperation, both companies have experience working with prediction market partnerships.

Robinhood collaborates with firms like ForecastEx and Rotella, a division of Interactive Brokers, to provide all-or-nothing derivatives to its clientele. Additionally, it has a stake in Rothera, which operates in partnership with Susquehanna International Group.

A Crypto.com and Robinhood collaboration could significantly disrupt the nascent prediction market sector, where a handful of firms currently hold most of the market share. Notably, Robinhood is believed to contribute considerable volume to one of these leading players.

Before the news of a potential partnership emerged, analysts were already actively discussing the rapidly shifting dynamics in the prediction market landscape, suggesting that it might eventually host as many as ten viable competitors, including Crypto.com and Robinhood.

Implications of a Potential Deal for Crypto.com

In terms of U.S. prediction markets, Crypto.com is somewhat of a veteran, having initiated its services in late 2024. However, it still holds a lower market share compared to several rivals.

A partnership with Robinhood could significantly alter this situation. With over 27 million funded accounts, and more than one million users already engaging with event contracts, Robinhood possesses the capability to elevate Crypto.com’s trading volume substantially, should an agreement be finalized.

Earlier this year, Crypto.com launched its standalone prediction market, dubbed “OG,” and has existing event contracts with other notable companies, including sports betting leader FanDuel.
