Name recognition alone cannot guarantee success for a restaurant in Las Vegas. It takes more than just a famous name to thrive in such a competitive market. To survive in the high-cost environment of the Strip, innovation, high quality, and a bit of luck are essential.
Below are some of the most significant celebrity restaurant failures in the history of Las Vegas.
9. Guy Fieri’s El Burro Borraco
Rio
2016-2020 (6 years 5 months)
Six years may seem like a decent lifespan for a Las Vegas restaurant, but it fell short of expectations for Fieri’s eateries. This particular venue was the only one of Fieri’s five establishments in Vegas that did not survive.
After Caesars Entertainment sold the operating rights of the Rio to Dreamscape Companies in 2019, El Burro Borraco did not reopen despite the ownership change. The reasons for its closure were not officially disclosed, but in Las Vegas, successful establishments rarely shut down.
8. International Smoke by Michael Mina
MGM Grand
2019-2025 (5 years)
International Smoke, a collaboration between Michael Mina and Ayesha Curry, faced challenges in maintaining consistent patronage. Despite its closure in Las Vegas, Mina continues to thrive with other successful ventures.
7. Eva Longoria’s Beso Steakhouse
Crystals at CityCenter
2009-2012 (2 years 8 months)
Beso Steakhouse, co-owned by Eva Longoria and Todd English, faced challenges including negative reviews and financial difficulties, which led to its closure.
6. Majordōmo Meat & Fish by David Chang
The Venetian
2019-2022 (2 years 5 months)
5. Moon Palace by David Chang
The Venetian
2020-2022 (2 years 4 months)
David Chang’s ventures at the Venetian faced challenges and closed down with the property’s sale to VICI Properties.
4. Eva Longoria’s SHe by Morton’s
Crystals at CityCenter
2012 -2014 (1 year 4 months)
SHe struggled with health code violations and ultimately closed down due to a lack of patronage.
3. Masso Osteria by Scott Conant
Red Rock Resort Casino
2018-2019 (1 year 3 months)
Market saturation and other factors led to the closure of Masso Osteria after a relatively short period.
2. M.Y. Asia by Martin Yan
Horseshoe Las Vegas
2023-2023 (159 days)
M.Y. Asia closed down due to financial difficulties and a lack of expected revenue.
1. Elio by Enrique Olvera
Encore Las Vegas
2020-2020 (153 days)
Elio closed down due to the impact of the pandemic, which resulted in a significant decrease in patronage.
