The Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) from tribal casinos across the United States reached an unprecedented $43.9 billion in the fiscal year 2024, as reported by the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) on Thursday. This signifies an increase of $2.0 billion compared to the prior year.

The annual growth of 4.6% indicates ongoing resilience and expansion within the tribal gaming industry, which comprises 532 gaming facilities managed by 243 federally recognized tribes spanning 29 states.

“This year’s GGR showcases the robustness of the tribal gaming sector and the commitment of tribal leaders to foster and maintain this pivotal economic engine for their communities,” stated NIGC Acting Chairwoman Sharon Avery. “The ongoing prosperity of Indian gaming is a reflection of effective tribal governance and stringent regulatory frameworks that uphold the integrity of our industry.”

Every region within the NIGC, encompassing all eight areas, reported growth over FY 2023, with the Oklahoma City and Washington, D.C. regions achieving notable double-digit revenue increases compared to the previous fiscal year. These results highlight the sector’s essential role in promoting tribal self-governance and community development.

“These financial figures illustrate the beneficial impact that tribal gaming has on tribal sovereignty, job creation, infrastructural development, educational opportunities, and crucial social, health, and welfare programs in native communities,” remarked Vice Chair Jeannie Hovland. “The NIGC is dedicated to collaborating with tribes and their regulators to ensure the enduring integrity and prosperity of Indian gaming.”

The commission defines GGR as the total amount wagered by players less the winnings distributed, which serves as a key metric for tracking the performance of the gaming sector and shaping regulatory measures under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
