The most critical news affecting NFL betting lines is the serious injury to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who is following a toe injury sustained against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Burrow Set to Undergo Surgery

Burrow is scheduled for surgery, leading the Bengals to rely on backup quarterback Jake Browning.

In other NFL injury updates, Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels is dealing with a knee sprain that puts his status for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders in jeopardy.

Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy is also likely to miss Sunday’s matchup against the Bengals after injuring his ankle during the game against the Atlanta Falcons.

McCarthy Injured

The Los Angeles Chargers are placing linebacker Denzel Perryman on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens may be without Pro Bowl linebacker Kyle Van Noy for several weeks because of a hamstring issue.

These injuries are impactful, but none are as significant as the loss of Burrow, who was a strong MVP candidate according to betting experts.

Bengals’ Super Bowl Odds Rise to +7500

Before his injury, Burrow boasted the fourth-best Regular Season MVP odds on ESPN BET at +1100, but those odds have since vanished from the board. He received 17.3% of all bets for MVP, with the majority of the handle (14.7%) trailing only Lamar Jackson at 31.5%. Josh Allen continues to be the MVP frontrunner at +300.

The Bengals were previously +2000 to win the Super Bowl, ranking ninth, but have now surged to +7500 at ESPN BET. Their AFC odds have similarly declined from +1000 (5th) to +4000 (9th).

Bettors Find Opportunity

However, not everyone in the betting community is as gloomy about Burrow’s situation.

“While the Bengals’ odds have changed, they still sit in the middle of the pack for Super Bowl and AFC contenders, so we’re not writing them off completely. Jake Browning has good talent on his side and showed he can guide the offense during Sunday’s win. The Bengals are traditionally a popular choice due to Burrow, but the team still has the potential to be competitive,” said Johnny Avello, Director of Sports Operations at DraftKings.

The Bengals are currently listed at +6000 to win the Super Bowl on DraftKings today.

Joey Feazel, Head of Football at Caesars Sportsbook, noted that the earlier games yielded robust results for bettors, with favorites winning seven out of nine games outright.

“Significantly, Cincinnati and Dallas—two heavily favored teams—achieved comeback victories, leading to a thriving in-play betting opportunity for users,” he mentioned. “Additionally, the popular Over bets were successful particularly for parlays and same-game parlays, with nine games finishing above the total. This pattern contributed to a favorable start to the day for our betting customers.”

Seahawks’ Victory Over Steelers Beneficial for Books

The Eagles defeating the Chiefs, alongside the Bills (-5.5), Ravens (-12.5), and the Lions (-6.5), were favorable outcomes for bettors at Caesars Sportsbook. The Seahawks’ unexpected victory over Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers, along with the Panthers covering against the Cardinals, turned out to be the best outcomes for the sportsbooks.

“Overall, the successful combination of favorite victories and high-scoring games made for an outstanding morning for bettors,” Feazel stated. “The afternoon games were more equilibrium for bettors since the Eagles were favored, but the points didn’t tally up. Bettors have started the season strong with a 2-0 record on Sundays,” he added.

Additional notable NFL updates: At ESPN BET, the Ravens and Bills are again co-favorites for the Super Bowl, with the Bills holding steady at +550 following Week 2 and the Ravens falling to +650. The Packers (+650) and Eagles (+700) maintained their odds from prior to Sunday’s matches.
