The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation operates the tribal casino, which is seeing an influx of law enforcement and emergency responders. A SWAT team is also reportedly present.

Foxwoods is situated approximately 75 miles southwest of Boston and 115 miles northeast of Midtown Manhattan.

“We currently have a male suspect with a firearm holding a female in a hotel room,” reported a Connecticut State Police dispatcher over police scanners, calling officers to the scene.

This incident is occurring in Fox Tower, specifically in room 16-101. Authorities mention that the suspect is “refusing to cooperate or open the door.”

Contained Situation

There appears to be no threat to the rest of the resort. Foxwoods’ social media channels have yet to provide updates on the police situation. Just moments ago, the casino posted an image of a patron enjoying a slot machine, captioned, “What’s the vibe this week? Jackpot glow!”

As this situation unfolds, specific details on what precipitated the alleged hostage incident remain sparse. Connecticut State Police have simply stated they are assisting Foxwoods with “an ongoing incident” this morning.

Given that Foxwoods operates on sovereign land owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, law enforcement matters are typically managed by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police. In significant criminal situations requiring federal or state jurisdiction, outside law enforcement may be summoned for support.

Despite the ongoing police activity, Foxwoods Resort Casino remains operational. However, certain areas of the Fox Tower have been restricted while law enforcement and SWAT teams work to resolve the hostage situation.

Foxwoods is recognized as one of the largest resort casinos in the United States, featuring a range of amenities including hotels, 175,000 square feet of event space, a shopping outlet, and the newly opened Great Wolf Lodge.

In terms of gaming, the resort boasts five casinos with over 3,200 slot machines, 175 live dealer tables, and dedicated poker and bingo rooms, alongside a DraftKings Sportsbook.
