Former Detroit Lions safety, currently facing a league suspension, has now been charged with a misdemeanor DUI in Las Vegas. Tracy Walker III, aged 30, was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday, October 20, as reported by KLAS-TV/Las Vegas.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Monday, when Walker was stopped near Decatur Boulevard and Harmon Avenue for alleged speeding. Upon issuing a citation, the officer discovered Walker asleep at the wheel of his vehicle.

The arrest report indicates that officers had to call Walker several times before he became alert. Once he exited the vehicle, officers observed him “swaying back and forth” and detected a significant smell of alcohol on his breath.

Walker confessed to visiting a hookah lounge prior to the incident, but he declined a voluntary blood test. Consequently, the officers obtained a warrant for two blood samples.

At the time of booking, Walker provided a Michigan residence and was processed at the Clark County Detention Center, being released without posting bond, which is typical for non-violent misdemeanor cases in Nevada.

As of Tuesday, no formal charges had been lodged, a common occurrence in DUI investigations that require toxicology results, which may take several weeks due to laboratory backlogs.

If found guilty of misdemeanor DUI in Nevada—a first offense for Walker based on available records—he could face a maximum of six months in jail, fines reaching up to $1,000, mandatory DUI educational courses, community service, and a 185-day suspension of driving privileges, along with installation of an ignition interlock device.

Walker has not released any public comments regarding the arrest. A status hearing is scheduled for January 8.

Currently a free agent, Walker last played for the Detroit Lions during the 2023 season. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers on August 5, 2024, but was released three weeks later without having participated in a game.

Walker is serving a suspension for the first 12 games of the 2025 season. The league’s transaction wire offered no specific reasons for the suspension, which has led to speculation among fans and analysts.

Should he secure a contract this season despite the DUI charge, Walker would still be ineligible to play until late November 2025, which could significantly diminish his market appeal at the age of 30.
